Spirit Bear - Spotlight | Wild Elements Nature Photography

Home Great Bear Rainforest | Spotlight

Normally, it has been my experience that photography in the Great Bear Rainforest can be very dark, and often rainy. Even if the sun is shining, the forest can be so dense that it’s hard to tell that it’s even sunny. This Spirit Bear was position in just right place so that her head, front paws, and the fish she has on the rock were getting hit with the beam of sunlight sneaking in through the trees.

Often as a photographer we want the front-light subjects because they are easy in post-processing, often there is very little to do. However, I love the front/side light on this bear because it draws all the focus to her face and eyes, and very little to the other parts of the images, which really aren’t all that interesting anyway. I love that both eyes are catching the light and really standing out.
