Black in the Black

Black Bears in the Great Bear Rainforest can often be overshadowed, and sometimes even ignored, in favour of the more exciting species, the Grizzly Bears, and if we are lucky the Spirit Bear.

I am glad that I did not ignore this Black Bear, which was taken just as he stepped out from the shadows of the forest and into the light. I like that  there is a bit of light reflecting off his face (and more importantly his eye), but all dark in the background, which really makes the Black Bear stand out – who knew black could make black stand out!

This image shows that you do not always need a stunning landscape to make for a stunning image.
