Seeking Salmon

This Spirit Bear was photographed during our 2018 Great Bear Rainforest trip.  This particular Spirit Bear had not been seen along the river in 7 days, so we were really lucky, and the guides were really surprised when she appeared out of the woods.

The speculation is that she was feeding on the berries because the salmon were scarce in this area due to the lack of rain.  Without the rain, the water levels were not high enough for the salmon to get up the river to where the bears can feed on them.

While we didn’t have hours with this bear, like we have in the past, it was a treat to see her considering she MIA for 7 days.
