There are years that I have spent time photographing Spirit Bears, or Grizzly Bears, along rivers and streams that are just completely full of salmon, and there are years when the fish are quite sparse and the bears need to work really hard to catch the healthier of the fish.
In 2016, there was a reasonable amount of salmon in this river where we were photographing Sprit Bears. Despite that, it doesn’t keep this Spirit Bear from being quite pleased with herself for catching a relatively fresh one and showing it off to us, before heading to the shore to eat it.
