Yawn

This Steller Sea Lion just couldn’t seem to stop yawning while we were photographing him.  I guess he must have had a long night, or leading a harem must be hard work, causing him to be extra sleepy.

Adult male Seal Lions (or bulls) control a spot on the rocks and have over a dozen females as part of the harem, mating with multiple females in one spring.  Bulls will aggressively defend their territories from other reproductive males, however the females are free to move about as they please.  Clearly all the mating and defending territory makes a Sea Lion Sleepy.
