Get a Room

Pictured here are Steller Sea Lions photographed on my 2015 Marine Mammals trip where we explored the waters of British Columbia off Vancouver Island. We spent 7 days staying on a sailboat, and photographing the abundance of wildlife in this area.

Steller Sea Lion Males (pictured here in the back) “control” an area called a rookery, where females will come to mate. Males will have a harem of female Sea Lions, and will defend his territory, and females, against other males in the area.

In this image it looks like the little sea lion in the front (I’m guessing a juvenile given the size and color), is looking at us like “can they please get a room”, and “do I really have to sit here and watch this”.

Witnessing interactions among Sea Lions is one of the things that makes photographing them so exciting.
