One of my favorite birds to see on the coast of British Columbia is the Black Oystercatcher, I think it’s because of the contrast between their eyes, legs and beak compared to their dark feathers.

On the 2018 Marine Mammals trips, we had several opportunities to photograph Black Oystercatchers is various locations, however, I think this one is my favorite of the bunch, and of all the ones I have taken of this vibrant bird so far.

It was higher up on the rocks, when it decided it wanted to go down to the edge of the water for a quick drink, which is the first time I have witnessed this.  Besides capturing this bird in a unique scenario, I also like the reflections of the Black Oystercatcher, along with the rocks covered in barnacles and moss.
