Sea Otter Piggy Back
Piggy Back

Sea Otter Babies (know as pups) usually stay with their moms until they are about 6 months old.  In this image, this pup did something more unusual, and rode on it’s mom’s back, as opposed to on it’s tummy (like the other pups we saw).

This image was taken during my August 2015 Marine Mammals trip on the BC Coast, where we were fortunate enough to see a lot of Sea Otters, and many of them had pups.  Sea Otters can have babies at any time of year, therefore you could see very small pups, or bigger ones like this guy (or gal).
