Quite the Haul

The Bald Eagles in this part of Alaska are there to feed on the nutrient rich salmon that are still running in the waters. But what surprised me is how the eagles went about getting the fish out of the water. I pictured them perched on a tree and then diving at great speeds to snatch one out of the water. Instead what I witnessed is them walking to the edge of the water, or sometimes right in the water, and just walking out dragging the fish in their talons.

If I recall correctly this Bald Eagle was hauling this fish away from another eagle that was just off to its left. It’s pretty impressive that they can haul around these salmon so easily, given Bald Eagles only weigh up to 6kg.
