Great Gray Owls are the largest owl that calls Alberta home, and can measure almost 30 inches long. Despite being the largest owl in Alberta, they don’t go after the largest prey, and instead stick to small mammals, including voles. This owl was using the fence post to listen (they have very keen sense of sound) for something to eat in the very tall grasses below. This tall, very green grass, made for an excellent out of focus background for this image.
