While it looks like this Badger is just hanging out at the top of his den, he had actually just finished digging snow out of it. When we arrived, its was pretty much all snow outside the den, but from this image, you can see how much dirt he had already pulled out, and he just kept on bringing out more and more.
What surprised me the most was how he went about extracting the snow and extra dirt out of his den. He went into the den headfirst, and then would dig it out, and kick it out of the hole using his hind legs. It was so interesting that I actually took a video.
