This grizzly bear was photographed during my first trip into the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Sanctuary. Going into the Khutzeymateen I really wanted to capture a picture of a grizzly swimming through the water close-by, and thankfully I wasn’t disappointed. This guy didn’t take his eyes off of us while swimming by the zodiac as we all clicked away with our cameras.
Located 45km northeast of Prince Rupert, the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Sanctuary covers almost 45,000 hectares of land and was established as a park in 1994 to be a protected area for grizzly bears and their habitat. Given the remoteness of the park, and the restricted access very few people get the opportunity to visit and photograph these Grizzly’s, an experience I feel really fortunate for.
