Watching Over Mom

A mother Sea Otter casually drifts alongside our zodiac, seemingly without a care.  However, her little pup was a little less casual, and a little more nervous of us.  It was like he tried to make sure that he stayed behind his mother, but still wanted to make sure he could get a good look at us.

On our 2019 Marine Mammals trip we had the opportunity to see a number of Sea Otters, including some moms with pups, and the moms were relaxed and came right by our zodiac.  It is great to see the population of Sea Otters continue to grow after being extirpated and then reintroduced in the 70s.
