Menacing

I feel like I’m being a little bit unfair to this Grizzly Bear by captioning this image Menacing, because this could in fact be a very nice bear. However, with how it’s coming out from under the trees (out of the darkness) this bear certainly does look menacing.

In this location, located in Northern British Columbia, and like many of the others I visit to photograph Grizzly Bears, these bears are actually comfortable around humans, which then makes us comfortable around them. The reason for this could be anything, but I think part of it comes from years of having positive interactions with humans and not being shot at for starters. Also the locations we are visiting often have a lot of food sources for these Grizzlies, such as berries and salmon, and therefore they are not stress out finding food. Grizzly Bears certainly don’t see humans as a better alternative to their protein and fat packed salmon.
