You need to look very closely to see what this mother Black Oystercatcher is keeping a watchful eye over her small chick, which blends in very well.

This is the first Black Oystercatcher chick that I have seen, and I couldn’t believe how incredibly well they blended in with the rocks around them.  What also cracked me up about them, is how long their legs are and big their feet are in comparison to their body size, it’s like they are all legs.

This image was taken on our Gwaii Haanas trip where we had the opportunity to photograph a variety of shore birds, sea birds, and Bald Eagles.
