In the Deep Blue Sea is a Dall’s Porpoise swimming through the water.  While some marine mammals will do what is called “porpoising” where they will come out of the water while swimming along, but not a full breach.  It is very uncommon for Dall’s Porpoises to actually porpoise and come out of the water.  Therefore, sometimes the best that you can get of these guys is to photograph them through the water.

While it is hard to tell from this photograph, Dall’s Porpoise move incredibly fast, and are quite hard to photograph.  On our 2018 trip, we had the chance to refine our skills on photographing them, as we saw them almost every day of our 7-day trip. Having clear and and relatively calm water was the key to capturing this shot.
