Great Blue Herons are pretty unique looking birds, given their large size, and their long necks, and legs (which make them look like they are standing on stilts) they look quite different from most birds that we have here in Alberta and British Columbia. Great Blue Herons can stand up to 4.5 feet tall (almost as tall as I am), but despite their height, they actually don’t weigh more than five pounds.
Great Blue Herons use these long legs to help them eat. They can wade in shallow waters and then they will use their sharp bills to spear the fish.
