Bubble Bath

During the Fishing Grizzlies of the Taku trip we spend a lot of the time sitting riverside waiting for the Grizzly Bears to make their appearance and start fishing. One thing I actually like about waiting riverside is that you get the opportunity to see many other species as well, such as Bald Eagles, American Dippers, and these Common Mergansers.

The “bubble bath” was likely the result of branches, leaves or pollen combining with the river, and once they start to decay they create this foam. And surprisingly, the Common Mergansers swam right through it, even ducking their head into the water to lather up the hair on their heads.
