Is He Still There?

The female Grizzly Bear (in the front) had been resisting the advances of this very large male Grizzly Bear for a few days while on my 2016 trip to the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary. At a certain point you almost start to feel a little bad for the male. He followed her where ever she went, and she would walk faster, or swim to another part of the estuary to try to get away from him, but he just followed her everywhere she went.

This image to me is funny because it looks like she is asking us “is he still there?”, and trying to not make eye contact with him as it might give him the wrong idea that she may be interested. This female was quite the hot commodity in the Khutzeymateen this year, with one point having three different male Grizzly Bears focus their attention on her.
