Leapfrog

Leap Frog…well more like Leap Grizz.  This Grizzly Bear on my trip up to Northern British Columbia undertook a very interesting way to try to catch the fast moving, and sometimes elusive, salmon, by leaping at them.  It didn’t end up turning out too well for this guy, all he made was a big splash, and seemed somewhat embarrassed that we witnessed it all, so he ran off into the woods after this one failed attempt.

It was very interesting to watch the different ways that the Grizzly Bears will go about trying to catch salmon, from the leap, to the snorkel (where they put their eyes under water) to the snatch and grab, to diving in from the shore.  There doesn’t seem one way that is more successful than the others, just some bears that are more successful.
