Grizzly Bear Battered Beaten Khutzeymateen British Columbia
Battered but not Beaten

Battered But Not Beaten was photographed during my 2015 trip into the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary. One of the unique aspects of 2015 was that there didn’t appear to be dominant male like that had been in years past, so what we witnessed were the male (and female) Grizzly Bears trying to establish dominance.

This Grizzly was one of the very first that we saw when we showed up for our 5 day trip, and he was already quite beat up with a couple deep wounds on his left leg. And we later witnessed him engaged in a true fight with another large grizzly, which he was on the losing end of.

The caption of this photo depicts the attitude that this bear seemed to have, and although he was full of wounds, he couldn’t be stopped, he continued to go about his business, and mating with the female bears like nothing was even wrong.
